The History of Political Economy (HOPE) group at Duke University has scheduled the following Workshops for Fall 2008. Workshops are held in Room 327 of the Social Sciences Building, and begin at 3:30 p.m. September 19 - Steven Medema (University of Colorado-Denver), "Chicago Price Theory and Chicago Law and Economics: Issues on the Road to a History of Chicago Price Theory" October 3 - Donald Katzner (University of Massachusetts-Amherst), "Radical Hires in Economics at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst during the Early 1970s" November 14 - Tim Leonard (Princeton University), "Excluding Inferior Workers: Eugenics and Progressivism in the Age of Economic Reform" December 5 - Lawrence White (University of Missouri - Saint Louis) and Hansjoerg Klausinger (Wirtschaftsuniversit?t Wien) - "Hayek's Capital and Monetary Theories" The HOPE group will also sponsor HOPE Lunches, a reading group that will meet on select Fridays in Room 327 from 11:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. The theme for this semester is "Creative Communities." Finally, the Center for the History of Political Economy began operation this fall. We are currently working on a web site that will contain information about the Center, its Fellowship program, and procedures for applying for the 2009-2010 academic year.
