I've observed that this happens with posts that are cut and pasted from MacIntosh word processing software and sometimes with MacIntosh e-mail clients. It can also occur if the post is composed in a word-processor and pasted into an AOL e-mail. What look like spaces are translated into the high-bit characters that control "carriage returns." You might want to check and see if any of those situations apply.. then you could experiment a little bit until you eliminate the "offending" combination.
