With
apologies for cross postings
The 2010
AAO Conference will be held June 16 to 18 at Georgian College in Barrie.
The Conference theme, “From Daguerreotypes to Flickr: Grappling
with the Archival Image in an Era of Technological Change,” was developed
by Ellen Scheinberg and the Program Committee. To see additional details
about the program please see the Call for Proposals.
As details are finalized, updates about the program and local arrangements will
be posted to the AAO website, AAOList, ARCAN-L and the AAO
Conference Facebook site.
As
Chair of the AAO’s 2010 Conference Local Arrangements Committee, I would
like to invite everyone to Barrie next June. “Beautiful Barrie by
the Bay” is situated on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay, a mere 90 kms north
of Toronto, and is accessible by (private) airplane, boat, bus, car and
train. The workshops and conference sessions will be held at Georgian
College, seconds away from the Duckworth Street exit of Highway 400, and a stop
on several City transit routes.
Arrangements
have been made for residential accommodation at Georgian Summer Suites.
Each suite contains 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and small kitchenette. The
AAO Conference rate is $65.00 per suite, per night, and the choice is yours
whether or not to have a suite-mate. There are also a variety of hotels,
motels and bed and breakfast accommodations in Barrie and area, as well as the
Georgian Green Hostel.
Many
people associate the City of Barrie with the drive to their family’s
cottage. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere of Cottage Country, the
Opening Reception will provide you with an opportunity to unwind from your
journey and enjoy the company of your colleagues. It will be held at the
Simcoe County Museum, located just outside the City in a beautiful
reforestation area.
While
the conference itself runs from June 16 to 18, I encourage you to take some
extra time and enjoy the amenities that Barrie and Simcoe County have to
offer. There are countless cultural, natural and recreational
attractions, outdoor activities, restaurants, shops and theatres within our
borders. Come for the conference, and “bide a wee” for
yourself.
Regards,
Ellen
