Description of the proposed practicum | In January 2011, the Ontario

greater role in supporting applied research and program evaluation, professional
development and education, and knowledge exchange functions in public health.
Such functions are key to evidence-informed public health practice and
to the development of public health professionals across the province.
OAHPP has engaged health units, professional associations and provincial ministries in developing a program that meets the sector’s needs and advances health units’ ability to meet the Ontario Public Health Standards. A multi-step engagement process has included consultations, development and dissemination of a discussion paper providing an overview of the strategic considerations, principles and menu of potential program elements that would support the program functions, survey, focus group. The consultation will culminate in program design and implementation in late Fall, early Winter 2010/2011. More information about this initiative is available on the OAHPP website at http://www.oahpp.ca/resources/projects/srke/index.html This project offers students with an interest in program planning, implementation and evaluation to be actively involved in the final planning and roll-out of a new provincial program. Working with the senior planner and director of external relations, student activities would include jurisdictional and comparative analyses, drafting of policies and support structures for advisory committees activities, preparing briefing materials for senior management, participating in internal and external planning and implementation teams, and engaging with OAHPP programmatic leadership, committee members, ministry partners to bring about the implementation. |
