The few Sacramento Twainiacs are in for a big deal when the US Postal Services unveils a new Mark Twain stamp with his likeness, a river (although probably not the Sacramento) and a paddle boat This Sunday, June 25 in Old Sacramento. There's not a lot of Twain-related activities or historical sites here even though he traveled through town a few times to catch the river boat to San Francisco, calling it variously, "The city of saloons" and "Land of eternal summer," (it was 102° yesterday). He also gave his Sandwich Islands talk at the Orleans Hotel which has recently been restored. So we'll have a drink in the heat in his honor.
