Folks; This query on behalf of a colleague:

does anyone know a source (and if possible the actual words) where Mark
Twain said (allegedly) that the American Civil War was a fight between Sir
Walter Scott and Robert Burns. I know of the material In LOM about Scott,
of course; I just do not know where MT talks about Burns and Scott as
feuding. Any ideas?

Best,

-Hal B.
