My favorite method for sniffing out a bogus Twain search is to put the phrase in Google Books. This one got more than 800 hits - that settles it! A real quote. But wait - let's limit to books published before 1920. Than the count drops to zero. Nice try and thanks for playing the game, but not a Twain Quote. As wonderful as the Internet is at giving us access to all kinds of information, it has also given us stunning access to gibble gabble. ________________________________________ From: Mark Twain Forum [[log in to unmask]] on behalf of Shapiro, Fred [[log in to unmask]] Sent: Saturday, January 28, 2012 7:11 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: quotation verification Like most quotes attributed to Twain, this one seems too banal and too mode= rn in its diction to be authentic.=0A= =0A= Fred Shapiro=0A= Editor=0A= YALE BOOK OF QUOTATIONS (Yale University Press)=0A= =0A= =0A= =0A= ________________________________________=0A= From: Mark Twain Forum [[log in to unmask]] on behalf of JULES AUSTIN HOJNOWS= KI [[log in to unmask]]=0A= Sent: Friday, January 27, 2012 11:27 PM=0A= To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: quotation verification=0A= =0A= I looked in the "L's" in=0A= http://www.twainquotes.com/L.html=0A= =0A= and did not see anything.=0A= I googled the quote, and got this:=0A= http://www.google.com/search?q=3D3D%22The+worst+loneliness+is+not+to+be+com= fo=3D=0A= rtable+with+yourself.%22&ie=3D3Dutf-8&oe=3D3Dutf-8&aq=3D3Dt&rls=3D3Dorg.moz= illa:en-=3D=0A= US:official&client=3D3Dfirefox-a=0A= =0A= the one site said:=0A= http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=3D3D20081103184240AAtKGHc=0A= =0A= "the worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself"- Mark Twain?= =0A= what does this quote mean? can u explain please=0A= =0A= * 3 years ago=0A= * Report Abuse=0A= =0A= strooxstroox by strooxst...=0A= =0A= Member since:=0A= October 30, 2008=0A= Total points:=0A= 308 (Level 2)=0A= =0A= * Add Contact=0A= * Block=0A= =0A= Best Answer - Chosen by Asker=0A= I can't say for sure, I've never heard this quote before, but I would imagi= =3D=0A= ne it has to do with developmental psychology, or at least the concept of a= =3D=0A= utonomy.=0A= =0A= Basically, think of the common phrase, "GURL, no one can love you like you = =3D=0A= can!"
