The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) is seeking proposals to develop and execute a qualitative evaluation of the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation in Primary Care. The Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation (OMSC) in Primary Care is an evidence-based, systematic approach to addressing tobacco use in primary care clinics. The model supports successful quitting using the best available evidence-based treatments, and emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration in program delivery. Originally developed for use in hospital settings, the OMSC has since been adapted for application in Family Health Teams (FHTs) and other primary care settings. For more information on the OMSC in Primary Care program see: http://www.ottawamodel.ca/documents/ProgramSummary2012-08-07inhouseprintable version.pdf This evaluation will use in-person key informant interviews with health care providers to explore three primary research questions: 1)What are the barriers to and enablers of successful uptake of the OMSC model of "Ask, Advise, Assist", particularly in terms of physician participation? 2)How can the OMSC program be improved? 3)What value has the OMSC program provided to FHTs? A preliminary interview guide has been developed by OMSC team, and it is expected that the hired Contractor will, through their expertise in qualitative evaluation, review the interview guide to ensure it will prove successful in eliciting meaningful responses that will answer the evaluation's primary research questions. Proposals are due no later than 5:00pm on Monday, December 10th. This email is not the RFP. For the full RFP please contact Tamara Brown.
