As part of our ongoing community engagement program the City of Thunder Archives is pleased to announce the launch of 100 Years of Play, a web exhibit on the 100 year long history of the City's Summer Playgrounds program. The exhibit was launched on Family Day (February 17) at Thunder Bay's Marina Park in conjunction with the City's Recreation and Culture Division's kick-off of a year- long celebration of a century of play. Heritage Canada The National Trust has themed Heritage Day 2014 "Have Fun for Heritage: Heritage Places Made for Play". 100 Years of Play is the latest in series of web exhibits on aspects of life in Thunder Bay that have a direct impact on the daily lives of our citizens. The exhibit includes: * Port Arthur and Fort William Board of Parks Minutes documenting establishment of the program * Photographs and Newspaper articles from the early days of playgrounds * Playground maps, program manuals, leader training manuals and handbooks * Annual reports, pamphlets, and brochures A special section invites program leaders and participants to share their memories of playing.
