Not surprisingly: Cubs fans are beside themselves. However: just to clarify: in the forthcoming letters between Twain & Twichell, there is strong evidence that Twain was in fact a Cardinals fan. You will have to wait for the publication of that volume for the full story. But it seems clear, at least to me. Twain even wrote, in one letter to Twichell, his "strong sense" that one day, the Cardinals would win more World Series than any other National League team!
