In Carson City Nevada, the Firkin and Fox pub is located within the brick walls of the St. Charles Hotel, which housed a restaurant and bar when the brick hotel was built there in 1862. There is no doubt that Sam Clemens, and after January 1863, Mark Twain, hoisted a glass there. After one session of the 1862 Territorial Legislature (where Clemens was a reported) adjourned, members went to the St. Charles to participate in a wedding of two runaways from California. It was the kind of event Clemens would not have missed, there being no other notable entertainment in town that night. Also in Carson is the home built by Orion Clemens. It was completed in 1863, while Twain was still in Nevada Territory. And of course Twain visited Lake Tahoe on numerous  occasions, although none of the buildings remain from those years.
