- 2 -
Dear Colleagues,
The Career Centre is pleased to provide you with a PDF of the calendar of activities for the month of August 2017. Alternatively, you may refer to our online calendar.
Did you know that employers come to campus as early as September to recruit students for full time employment after graduation? Employer Recruitment sessions take place throughout the fall and our Career Fair is taking place on Sept. 19th this year! Employers are ramping up and students don’t want to miss out on these opportunities to connect with employers. We’ve designed the Professional Etiquette Days series of workshops to ensure that students are prepared to meet employers and confident in their abilities to showcase their skills and accomplishments.
Last month the Career Centre piloted a couple of our regular Job Search workshops in webinar format for students who may not be able to make it to campus in person or simply prefer to learn online rather than in a group setting. Given the webinars were hugely successful with record numbers of student participants, we’re trying it again. The following popular Job Search workshops will be offered in BOTH webinar and workshop format this month:
Students looking to meet with a career professional individually can drop into the Career Centre for a 15 minute session. Students can get advice and feedback about their job search, find out about career development and job search resources or get quick tips for their résumés or cover letters. No registration is required. Drop-ins @ the Career Centre take place on the following days in August:
ˇ Tuesday, August 1 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm ˇ Wednesday, August 9 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm ˇ Tuesday, August 15 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm ˇ Thursday, August 24 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm ˇ Monday, August 28 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Our TASTE (Take A Student To Eat) bite-sized mentoring program is in full swing. Alumni enjoying careers in media relations, business and corporate development, technology, political science, health policy and government relations, human resources, marketing and communications, environmental politics and economics are offering lunches for interested students. Students are invited to review our list of upcoming lunches and apply online.
If you know of any York alumni who may be interested in sharing their career stories with students, please contact Surina Sohal at [log in to unmask].
Feel free to share this information broadly with students, new graduates and colleagues. If you would like to have a contact added or you would like to be removed from this distribution list, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Julie Rahmer
