Special Olympics PEI (SOPEI) is launching a Healthy Communities Project as part of an international outreach of Special Olympics International to establish similar projects worldwide. Funding is provided by the Golisano Foundation (April 2018 – March 2021). Over the next three years, the project will strive to create communities on Prince Edward Island where Special Olympics athletes and others with intellectual disabilities have the same access to health and wellness resources – and can attain the same level of good health – as all community members. The end goal of the project is system change to increase inclusion and health outcomes for all in PEI communities. SOPEI has published a call for applications for a Community Engagement Coordinator to lead the project.
