This is a "poem" from chapter 36 of Following the Equator. Twain says he used 66 location names from a list of 81. From his published list of towns, of the first 15, 5 do not seem to exist and I'm hesitant to proceed without some advice. From Shillingsburg's "At Home Abroad" I got side tracked to a different poem, the Australian Poem. Thinking it was one and the same I tracked her source to the Parsons article in Mark Twain Journal 22 on JSTOR. No joy. Primarily I'm concerned with the proper Australian pronunciations for these place names, imaginary or not. From these first 15 entries I've found pronunciations for 6 of the locations. I have not looked for any audio book versions of FTE. -- There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. http://bscottholmes.com
