The Alice B. Donahue Library and Archives in Athabasca, AB is looking for an Archivist to manage the archives. 

This is a contract position for 50 hours per month.  (Duties are listed below).

Duties include:

-         Acquiring, describing, preserving, and maintaining documents and photographs about the people and history of Athabasca and region that fit the Acquisitions Policy of the Archives.

-         Contributing archival descriptions and digital objects to the Archives Society of Alberta’s Alberta On Record database

-         Supervising, coordinating and training volunteers

-         Welcoming and working with researchers and residents looking for archival information about the area and families.  This may be in person, by phone, or e-mail.

-         Hosting functions that raise awareness of archives functions or local history

Qualifications:

-         Interest in local history

-         Archives experience is highly desirable.

-         Completion of the ASA’s Archives Institute course or a degree in archival or information management studies is desirable.  A willingness to complete the ASA’s Archives Institute is acceptable.

-         Experience working with and coordinating volunteers.

-         Experience using standard computer applications

-         Experience digitizing and/or managing digital records is an asset

-         Strong written and oral communication skills

-         Ability to manage time effectively and set one’s own priorities.
