Hi all,
I am looking for information/sources on the economic thought of University of South Carolina professor Francis Lieber (1800-1872).
What I know about him as an economist is only what Joseph Dorfman
wrote in the second volume of The Economic Mind in American Civilization, namely, that he was a free trader and taught Say (and perhaps Bastiat).
Lieber is obviously important as a political theorist and philosopher of law, but I am interested in his economic ideas (if any). In particular, I am looking for the introduction
he, according to Dorfman, penned for Louisa McCord’s 1848 translation of Bastiat’s Sophisms of the Protective Policy. But any further help or suggestion would of course be much appreciated.
Thanks,
