Eugene M. Franzden, illustrator, lived from 1893-1972, so the illustration
is presumably from a later edition that did not appear in Twain's lifetime.
I presume you know that the engravings from the first edition were by a
well-known political cartoonist who inserted recognizable public figures
into his illustrations, presumably with Twain's knowledge and without
objection.
