Subject: Seeking tutors and mentors for L.E.A.R.N Program-Taibu Community Health Center(virtual)

Greetings,

Hope this email finds you safe and in good health. My name is Victoria and I am a Youth Community Leader working at TAIBU Community Health Center.  TAIBU is a multi-disciplinary health center that provides Primary Health Care Services and Health Promotion for the Black community in Malvern and the GTA, working from an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework.  TAIBU offers a variety of services working to support children, youth and families.

The L.E.A.R.N Academic Mentorship Program is catered to children and youth ages 7-18, with an empowering Parent Group component. The goal of this mentorship program is to increase the academic success of racialized students, mainly black populations to create strong foundations for life- success. This program emphasizes self-esteem, awareness of social location to institutional issues, academic comfort within the school environment and social and academic support.

The program connects students with a black mentor in high school/university and tutors to aid in academic support. This program pushes students to express themselves and share their experiences while connecting with others. Through 1:1 mentorship students will have the ability to develop knowledge and skill necessary to navigate their school environment. This is an excellent opportunity for black students in post-secondary as it gives them an opportunity to help other black students academically and personally thrive while acquiring valuable experience that will enrich their professional network.

We are contacting you/your organization for its support. We hope that you see our vision and help us support the community by sharing and promoting the LEARN Mentorship Program with your members. We are currently seeking mentors and tutors, specifically undergraduate students that are passionate about helping the youth and creating effective change in the community. Below I have attached two posters that briefly present more information regarding this opportunity(both for mentors and tutors).  For those that are interested please contact [log in to unmask]

Warm Regards

L.E.A.R.N Team
