Bold Ideas: A conversation with Erin Cochrane ¡V Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 4:30pm-6:00pm

We have co-evolved alongside our allies in nature; plants, herbs, animals, mushrooms, throughout our existence. Mushrooms are agreed to be one of the oldest recorded living organisms on this planet. After being around for so long, there are a few things we could learn from their wisdom.

Humans are now consciously evolving at an exponential rate. But what often happens during evolutions or transformations, are series of breakdowns, breakthroughs and leaving old ways behind. Erin shares her experiences with loss and grief, exploration of unconventional ways of living, and healing through community and the teachings of fungi. She looks into what challenging normative systems and learning from and modelling ¡§modern life¡¨ after intentional communities, and the fungal queendom could be like. And our opportunity through radical vulnerability and authenticity to achieve higher service to ourselves and others.

Student Equity & Diversity Survey ¡V Listening to YU: Be Seen. Be Heard. Take the Census.

Completing the Student Equity & Diversity Census is an important step toward identifying and eliminating barriers to access within York University.

We know that asking about a person¡¦s identity can be uncomfortable, and we will do so with sensitivity. We consulted students and community members when developing the questions so that we were respectful of the varying points of view of our racialized students, Indigenous students, women, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community.

By better understanding you ¡V who you are and how you identify ¡V we can provide targeted services, resources and supports to our community¡¦s equity-seeking groups and build a more inclusive community to support the academic success of our students.

  • Step 1: Access the Student Equity & Diversity Census here.
  • Step 2: Log into your Passport York account.
  • Step 3: Complete the Census and opt in for your chance to win an iPad Pro, a $100 Amazon gift card, a $50 Uber Eats gift card or $10 to your YU-Card. To read and understand the contest rules and find more details about the prizes and how to opt in, check out Prizes & Incentives below.

The Black Student Mentorship Program (BSMP) is recruiting Team Members

Now Recruiting for:

  • Events Committee Volunteers
  • Social Media Director
  • Marketing/Promotions Director
  • Recruitment Coordinators

Candidates from every Faculty of Health department are encouraged to apply.
Please apply through this form: https://forms.gle/EE5nURzRT4KZuL6z7

What is BSMP?

The Black Students Mentorship Program (BSMP) is a brand new student-led initiative at York University supported by Agents of Change. At the helm are students from the Faculty of Health with a mission to address and help remediate the persistent lack of Black representation in the population makeup of graduate students and professionals in health-related graduate studies and professions.

What is the goal?

The goal of BSMP is to establish mentorship and community for Black undergraduate students across the Faculty of Health, connecting them to each other and to Black graduate students, alumni, scholars and professionals in the field of health.

What is the desired outcome?

The desired outcome would be an increase in confidence, access and capacity for Black students, and ultimately an increase in the population of Black graduate students in Faculty of Health programs and Black professionals in various health professions. The added benefit of this outcome will be an increase in diversity in research and innovation streams as we evolve to include the voices, experiences and expertise of Black individuals in academia, scholarship, research and/or professional careers in health.
