Five York researchers have been awarded seed grants to carry out critical global health research and develop fuller grant proposals and research programs.

Following a two-day workshop on critical perspectives in global health research in March, the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research and the Critical Perspectives for Global Health Research (CPGH) Steering Committee received a number of excellent applications for seed grants from researchers across disciplines and from across York University.

The Dahdaleh Institute and the CPGH Steering Committee thank all the applicants this year and congratulate the 2022 CPGH Seed Grant recipients.

Dahdaleh Institute member Michael DeSanti will be presenting at the 2022 Emergency Environmental Health Forum. Hear him speak about the Safe Water Optimization Tool (SWOT) and SWOT’s risk-based approach to generating chlorination guidance to ensure safe water in humanitarian settings.

The 2022 Emergency Environmental Health Forum—the premier global forum for environmental health research in humanitarian emergencies—will be held on May 18 and 19, and it's free to attend. The theme of this year's conference is "Climate change mitigation and adaptation in humanitarian WASH programmes."

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and the University of Alberta is accepting applications for the Alberta Health Services Chair and tenure-track position in the area of Indigenous Health. The candidate’s program may include research and scholarly activities related to health policy, health services / health care delivery, knowledge translation, implementation science or medical education. The candidate will be a self-identified Indigenous individual who leads Indigenous health research alongside Indigenous partners; liaises with Alberta Health Services; is recognized internally for their research program; completes for external research funding; contributes to the Faculty’s undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching; and assists with administration. The appointment will be in the department most appropriate to the successful candidate’s research and/or clinical focus.

On April 19, the York University Research Awards Celebration recognized the contributions of researchers from all faculties and schools in areas including Indigenous knowledge, Black scholarship, global health, vision science, and space exploration, among others. 

Among the winners in the "Major Grants" category were Dahdaleh Institute Associate Director Mary Wiktorowicz, and faculty fellows Amrita Daftary, Satinder Brar, and Jianhong Wu. They are being recognized for leading major research initiatives that can advance our understanding of the world and address societal challenges. Dahdaleh Institute Research Fellow Mark Terry received an award in the "Remarkable Artistic & Creative Accomplishments" category, which recognizes artistic and creative accomplishments that enrich creative and cultural expression and understanding.
