(Forwarding from Jean Michel….) Colleagues, I am pleased to announce the release of the Fall 2022 issue of Canada Watch entitled “Myths, damn myths, and voting system change: How Canadian political scientists misrepresent democratic reforms” (attached and available at https://www.yorku.ca/research/robarts/canada-watch-2/ ). As you know, Canada Watch is the flagship publication of the Robarts Centre. The first issue was published in 1992. This year, we decided to open the Canada Watch format to include policy interventions more directly. In this issue, Faculty Associate Dennis Pilon explores how academics have framed voting system reform in Canada in misleading ways. Rather than framing it through a value trade-offs lens, Pilon proposes to represent voting system reform as an attempt to apply democratic values, such as inclusion, equality, and equity to our electoral institutions. Enjoy the read and if you would like to engage with Dennis on this topic, you are invited to join a public talk he will be holding on the subject on 17 November at 3pm in the Senate Chamber of the Glendon Campus. See details in the poster attached.
