Dear SHOE list,

We would like to thank everyone for the insightful discussion and feedback regarding the webinar series. We hope it will continue during the seminars because we feel there is a lot of room for diverse discussion and positions. Indeed, several commentors have raised issues we had not yet considered, but which are clearly worth exploring from a historical, methodological, and analytical perspective.

One of our main objectives is to consider how historians of economics can contribute to contemporary debates -- we therefore sought to identify an issue on which there is a deep -- though perhaps not always obvious -- literature. We also note that the issue of reproductive rights intersects with current research programs examining women's contributions to economic thought and the treatment of women in economic writings, providing another axis of discussion. Throughout, we plan emphasize the historical perspective, which includes such things as the Classical analysis of labor markets and eugenics as social policy.

Details on how to register and attend the webinars will be forthcoming in early January. We do plan to record the seminars and make them available for individuals who are not able to attend because of the time/date.

Last, we would like to offer our support for the SHOE list moderator and apologize for placing him in a difficult position. It is not an easy job to fairly represent the interests of all parties in situations where there may be tensions over academic debate and/or free speech.

best wishes,
