Whether in social work or psychology, the common response is, "I wanted to support and work with people who struggled in a similar way that I did." There's nothing wrong with this motivation. However, it can be tricky to work in a community you belong to. This presentation will explore case scenarios of working in multiple service settings and will attempt to make sense of the strong reactions of the practitioner toward their clients where they have a similar history or shared community. We will consider what the practitioner needs to be aware of to take care of themselves and optimally care for the client. *Note* This Webinar is FREE for Ontario Registered Social Workers (RSW), Registered Social Service Workers (RSSW) and Students of Social Work and Social Service Work Programs. If you are not an RSW, RSSW or student of these programs in Ontario, you may still attend but will be charged a nominal* fee of $30* *This Employment Ontario project is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario. When ASL interpretation is required, please indicate the preference in the registration form. The incorporation of ASL interpreters will depend on availability.* *Registration* https://oasw.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_rANqIJSwQ5GjK3hCepTfvw *Workshop Description* Why did you become a human service practitioner? However, while many of us know “our politics” around harm reduction, it can be useful to collectively reflect on how we define +problem substance use (“addiction”) and build a framework to understand the context of drug and alcohol use in our communities. We will discuss the multiple functions of drugs and alcohol lives and consider when use is a problem and when is it not. Many frontline service providers have not had the opportunity to process their own personal values, questions about what constitutes “harm”, their role in supporting clients, and the fears and barriers they may experience in implementing programs and services that are harm reduction-based . This workshop will allow for a values exploration, a space for honest and perhaps difficult conversations, and concrete tools that explore what specific harm reduction strategies can look like before, during, and after use. *Agenda includes exploration of -*Context of drug and alcohol use Values and attitudes Harm reduction in practice Intervention tools and tensions - therapeutic and practical Intervention tools and tensions - pharmacological *Cost*OASW Members: $199 + HST Non-members, Allied Health Professionals and Other Professionals: $249 + HST *Registration* https://www.gifttool.com/registrar/ShowEventDetails?ID=1125&EID=30687 [image: Website icon] <https://affectiveconsult.ca/> [image: Instagram icon] <https://instagram.com/ladyativan> [image: Twitter icon] <https://twitter.com/RahimThawer> [image: YouTube icon] <https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClUELh2WgSiLBoB0A9CQnRQ> [image: LinkedIn icon] <https://www.linkedin.com/in/rahim-thawer/> [image: Email icon] <[log in to unmask]> [image: Logo] To leave, manage or join list: https://listserv.yorku.ca/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=sdoh&A=1
