You are invited...
to suggest resources for addition to the Archives Advisory Services Working Group’s Reconciliation Toolkit for Non-Indigenous Archives in Canada. If interested, you can suggest a resource through this form.
Who is the Archives Advisory Services Working Group? The Archives Advisory Services Working Group (AAWG) is made up of provincial and territorial Archives Advisors from across Canada and representatives from other councils with committees instead of Archives Advisors. The group meets 6-8 times a year to share expertise, assist in planning, and advocate for archival institutions regionally and nationally. The AAO Institutional Development Committee Chair and Archeion Coordinator attend these meetings on behalf of the AAO.
What is the Non-Indigenous Archives in Canada Reconciliation Toolkit? The AAWG is developing an online Toolkit containing links and resources for non-Indigenous archival institutions in Canada that are working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities and documentary heritage. The AAWG’s idea for this project emerged from questions and concerns raised to Archives Advisors by non-Indigenous archivists about where and how to begin on the path toward Reconciliation. The AAWG believes this Toolkit could be a starting point and may help non-Indigenous archivists and archives develop respectful and reciprocal relationships with their local Indigenous community/communities. The AAWG’s Toolkit is meant to complement the work of the Steering Committee for the TRC Taskforce, which is compiling resources to assist Indigenous communities and organizations that are developing archives.
The AAWG’s Toolkit will include a guide outlining the first steps non-Indigenous archives and archivists might take when working with their local First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.
How to suggest a resource for the Reconciliation Toolkit: Provincial and territorial association members are invited to suggest links to resources that you have found helpful in your reconciliation work. If you would like to contribute a suggested resource or resources for inclusion in the Reconciliation Toolkit, please fill in this form by Monday, April 3rd, 2023.
