I am writing regarding the second session of the fifth year of the research seminar I organize at the Collège International de Philosophie (Université Paris Lumières) with the support of the Centre Walras-Pareto (University of Lausanne).


Nahid Aslanbeigui, Professor of Economics at Monmouth University, has given me the immense pleasure of giving a talk entitled “The ‘Pigouvian Tradition’ in Externality Analysis: Reconsiderations”. Her talk will take place on Friday, the 26th of October, from 6 to 8 pm Central European Time. Nahid is one of the most original and outstanding historians of economics. Her work has allowed numerous scholars to rediscover the importance of Pigou’s contributions to economics and grasp the unfairness of the dismissal of Pigouvian Welfare Economics by Lionel Robbins and proponents of Paretian Welfare Economics. She is the author of numerous exceptional books and papers, notably Arthur Cecil Pigou (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015) and The Provocative Joan Robinson The Making of a Cambridge Economist (Duke University Press, 2009), both co-written with Guy Oakes. The book on Robinson won the Joseph J. Spengler Prize for the Best Book awarded by The History of Economics Society in 2010. I also highly recommend reading her numerous papers on Pigou’s writings and her introduction to Routledge’s republication of Pigou’s The Economics of Welfare.
