The Bibliographical Society of Canada (BSC) invites
applications for the Emerging
Scholar Prize. The
Prize promotes the work of a researcher who is beginning a career in the fields of book history and bibliography, broadly defined — studies encompassing the creation, production, publication, distribution, transmission, history, and uses of printed books,
manuscripts, or electronic texts. Preference will be given to topics with a Canadian dimension.
The recipient of the BSC Emerging Scholar Prize will be invited to deliver a paper at the Society’s annual conference. A revised article-length
version of the paper will be published in The
Papers of the Bibliographical Society of Canada / Cahiers de la Société bibliographique du Canada subject
to peer review. A grant of $500 accompanies the Prize and may be used to help the recipient defray costs of attending the annual BSC conference at the Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities, or to meet costs associated with research. The recipient
will also receive a one-year complimentary membership in the BSC.
Students of any nationality enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program (e.g., MA, MAS, PhD, MLIS, MI) are eligible, as is anyone who has completed
such a program within the last two years — measured from the date of convocation to the submission deadline. Individuals holding tenure track/continuing appointments are ineligible, as are members of the Awards Committee and the BSC Executive. There are no
restrictions regarding the topic of research so long as it relates to some aspect of bibliography or book history.
Applicants must submit the following documents electronically in English or in French, in a single PDF file in the following order:

A one-page cover letter that explains the applicant’s interest in and suitability for the prize;
·
A brief Curriculum Vitae (max. three pages);
·
An abstract (max. 750 words, incl. bibliography) of the proposed paper;
·
Proof of student status or of graduation within the past two years (copy of diploma, copy of student identification, or official or unofficial
transcript).
Please note that, per a recent policy change, a letter of reference is
no longer required in support of applications for this award.

2024. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The recipient will be informed in March 2024.

et de la bibliographie, au sens large – études englobant la création, la production, la publication, la distribution, la transmission, l’histoire et l’utilisation des livres imprimés, des manuscrits ou des textes électroniques. La préférence sera donnée aux
sujets ayant une dimension canadienne.
Le lauréat du prix sera invité à présenter une communication lors de la conférence annuelle de la Société. Une version révisée de l’article sera publiée dans les

Papers of the Bibliographical Society of Canada / Cahiers de la Société bibliographique du Canada, sous réserve d’une évaluation
par les pairs. Une bourse de 500 $ accompagne le prix et peut être utilisée pour aider le récipiendaire à défrayer les coûts de participation à la conférence annuelle de la SBC au Congrès des sciences sociales et humaines, ou à défrayer les coûts associés
à la recherche. Le lauréat recevra également une adhésion gratuite d’un an à la BSC.
Les étudiants de toute nationalité inscrits à un programme de maîtrise ou de doctorat (par exemple, MA, MAS, PhD, MLIS, MI) sont éligibles, de même que toute personne
ayant terminé un tel programme au cours des deux dernières années – à partir de la date de convocation jusqu’à la date limite de soumission. Les personnes titulaires d’un poste permanent ou continu ne sont pas éligibles, de même que les membres de la commission
des prix et de l’exécutif de la BSC. Il n’y a pas de restrictions concernant le sujet de recherche pour autant qu’il soit lié à un aspect de la bibliographie ou de l’histoire du livre.
Les candidats doivent soumettre les documents suivants par voie électronique, en anglais ou en français, dans un seul fichier PDF et dans l’ordre suivant :
— Une lettre de motivation d’une page expliquant l’intérêt et la pertinence du candidat pour le prix ;
— Un bref curriculum vitae (trois pages maximum) ;
— Un résumé (750 mots maximum, bibliographie incluse) de l’article proposé ;
— Une preuve du statut d’étudiant ou de l’obtention d’un diplôme au cours des deux dernières années (copie du diplôme, copie de la carte d’étudiant ou relevé
de notes officiel ou non).
Veuillez noter que, suite à un récent changement de politique,
une lettre de référence n’est plus requise pour les candidatures à ce prix.
Tous les documents de candidature doivent être envoyés à Myron Groover, président du comité des prix BSC,
