Hello archival colleagues!
The CAMH Archives is looking into the possibility of acquiring records with personal health information (patient records). If another other institution, hospital or otherwise, has dealt with
something similar, I have a few questions I was hoping to crowdsource.
If you have dealt with acquiring records with personal health information, what, if anything, did your archives do before physically accepting them with regards to PHIPA or other legislation?
Did you register with the IPC under
subsection 42(3) of PHIPA? Or were you classified as an “agent” under PHIPA, and if so did that affect the potential uses of the records? Are you subject to the
Archives and Recordkeeping Act, and did that affect the process? Is all of this covered in your institution’s records retention policy?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
