Emerging Leadership Training (ELT) – Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 3:00pm - 7:30pm at Stong College 101 (MDR)

About ELT  
If you are thinking about getting involved at York and/or want to build on your leadership skills, then this training is for you.  We want to introduce you to the culture of peer leadership at Calumet and Stong Colleges and at York University.  We have developed a highly interactive program where you will have an opportunity to meet upper year students and explore topics with your peers in small and large groups. Students attending this training will complete the following three modules:  

  • Fostering a Leadership Community - explore elements and benefits of peer leadership and student engagement and how you can get involved in our leadership community.  
  • YU Thrive and Flourish - reflect on your self-care strategies and learn about the importance of managing stress. Emotional intelligence and self-compassion will also be discussed as ways to help you thrive and flourish.
  • YU Matter and Belong - learn about the importance of mattering and dig deeper into topics such as resiliency, grit, and growth mindset. 
What we need from you  
To receive a certificate of participation, you will be required to meet the following program requirements:  
  1. Participate in the full training (participants are asked to arrive on time and stay until the training ends). 
  2. Complete all pre-instructional activities, prior to the scheduled training, (2-hour commitment prior to the training) using the eClass platform. 
  3. Complete all post training activities (1-hour commitment after the training) using the eClass platform.

Advanced Peer Leadership Training (APLT) – Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 3:00pm - 7:30pm at Stong College 101 (MDR)

About APLT
The theme of the training is Leading with Purpose! Some of the topics we will explore include: 
  • Sense of Purpose & Sustainable Leadership 
  • Creating a Vision and Mission and Living Your Values 
  • Avoiding Burnout 
What we need from you  
To receive a certificate of participation, you will be required to meet the following program requirements:  
  1. Participate in the full training (participants are asked to arrive on time and stay until the training ends). 
  2. Complete all pre-instructional activities, prior to the scheduled training, (30 minute commitment prior to the training) using the eClass platform. 
  3. Complete all post training activities (30 minute commitment after the training) using the eClass platform.  
Additional Notes 
  • This training is open to all Faculty of Health students and students affiliated with Calumet and Stong Colleges.
  • The completion of ELT and FPLT is NOT mandatory.

Foundational Peer Leadership Training (FPLT) – April 27, 28, & 29, 2024

 

Dates and Times: 
Attendance at all three days is mandatory. Training is delivered synchronously via Zoom and eClass. 

Day 1: Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm 
Day 2: Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm 
Day 3: Monday, April 29, 2024 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

About FPLT
This training offers current students and peer leaders a unique opportunity to learn and reflect on how to take on leadership responsibilities, what it means to be a leader in their community, and how to maintain a balance in their lives. 
 
Eligibility 
This training is mandatory for all peer leaders affiliated with Calumet and Stong Colleges (both paid and volunteer roles). If you are interested in a peer leadership position and/or want to develop your leadership skills, we invite you to register.  
 
Program Requirements  
To receive a certificate of participation, you will be required to meet the following 5 program requirements:   
  1. participate in the full 3-day training (participants are asked to arrive on time and stay until the training ends)
  2. have access to a webcam, mic, and internet for remote portions of the training. You will be asked to keep your camera on and participate in the live small and large group discussions when training is offered remotely
  3. complete all mandatory pre-instructional activities, prior to the scheduled training, (30-minute commitment prior to Day 1) using the eClass platform
  4. complete all mandatory training activities throughout the training (60-minute commitment) using the eClass platform
  5. complete all mandatory post-training activities (30-minute commitment after the training) using the eClass platform
