Mr. Trauring, I believe the typescript Virginia has was made by a bevy of stenographers/typists who worked for *Life Magazine* sometime in the 1950s. Elizabeth Denny Vann had interested the magazine in running a story using Denny's journal and the fifty or so cartes-de-visite of the *Quaker City *passengers that he had collected. They divided the original up among half a dozen typists and all went at it at once. The result was pretty unreliable, even without the missing pages, and in the end *Life* decided not to run a story. As you may know, the original of the journal and the cartes-de-visite were given to MTP, and I have subsequently made a complete transcription of the journal, a copy of which I attach.
