I too am devastated by this news. Mauro, who I learned so much from and had the privilege of being friends with, will be sorely missed (and never forgotten). The entire Brazilian HET community owes him a great deal of gratitude.
Vá em paz meu amigo,

José Luís Cardoso was unable to post a message to the SHOE list and asked me to send it on his behalf.

Message from José Luís Cardoso:
“A great loss. A great sadness and sorrow for a friend who is leaving so soon, and whom we will miss so much. Mauro was a great scholar and his contributions will remain with us. As well as the vibrant memories of so many moments we shared with him. May he rest in peace.
Até sempre Mauro.
José Luís Cardoso”

Extremely sad news. Mauro was my favorite author, my greatest example as a researcher and a dear friend. It's really hard to express how much he will be missed.

Dear All,

I write in shock. I did not know at all that Mauro was so ill and I just want to say this is a great loss, first of all to his beloved ones, but also for us as a society. I am very very sorry to read this.

I regret to inform you that Mauro Boianovsky has died. He was extremely sick since late last year, although I do not have details as he chose to keep it private.
