When Mauro told me in December that he was ill and that his “life expectancy has reduced drastically”, I was far from thinking that things would worsen as quickly. I even thought that he was kidding. I will keep a great memory of our last meeting in January 2023 at the ASSA conference held in New Orleans. Not only because we managed to draw a paper from our discussions on Samuelson started three years earlier at Colmar but because I realized at this occasion how cheerful and nice he could be.
