This is truly devastating news. Mauro was a friend and a mentor, and I'll sorely miss his encyclopedic knowledge, inexhaustible energy and sense of humour.  My condolences to his family and friends, and to the whole HET community - what a terrible loss.

We've lost a giant of our field. I'm just devastated.

I was blessed to count Mauro a close friend, but I had no idea he was so sick.

Rest in peace, sweet Mauro.

Dear All,

I write in shock. I did not know at all that Mauro was so ill and I just want to say this is a great loss, first of all to his beloved ones, but also for us as a society. I am very very sorry to read this.

I regret to inform you that Mauro Boianovsky has died. He was extremely sick since late last year, although I do not have details as he chose to keep it private.
