Does your organization have collections on videocassette? Have you had tapes not play or struggled to get a VCR to work? Do you want to know more about how to maintain and repair the equipment necessary
to access and digitize videocassettes? Join us for a three-day workshop on legacy videocassette hardware!
What: Technological Obsolescence Recovery Network (TORN) Workshop on Videotape Hardware Maintenance and Repair
When: Late Fall 2024 (Final dates TBA)
Where: University of Toronto, Mississauga – Mississauga, Ontario
This hands-on three-day workshop will provide participants with an introduction to the repair and maintenance of videocassette formats and their corresponding playback decks to facilitate the digitization and preservation of works captured
on video. Over the course of three days, a maximum of thirty participants will receive hands-on training from some of the few remaining experts in videotape preservation, including Dave Pinney (Owner, Precision Video Service), Kim Tomczak (Former Restoration
& Collections Management Director, VTape), and Dave Pascoe (Media Specialist, University of Toronto Media Commons Archive). This workshop is aimed at staff of all levels in libraries, archives, and related organizations as well as students and emerging professionals.
No prior knowledge of, or experience with, audiovisual preservation is required to participate. Lunch and necessary equipment will be provided.
