Hello colleagues,

I'd like to let you know about two recent papers on weight bias and non-weight centered care among Registered Dietitians.

A summary and links to the papers are below:

Registered Dietitians have varying practice approaches and philosophies when working with higher weight adults. A cluster of approaches that are gaining popularity are non-weight focused approaches (NWFAs), as a strategy to limit the harmful effects of weight bias and stigma. For the first time in Canada, a research team led by Kori Lichtfuss MHSc, RD and JoAnne Arcand PhD, RD at Ontario Tech University has documented the spectrum of practice approaches Registered Dietitians use when working with higher weight clients. Also described were the factors that serve as barriers and facilitators to the implementation of NWFAs in practice. This data is highly relevant to support Registered Dietitians and educators training future Registered Dietitians.
