For those who are interested, today I received a brochure from the MT Memorial in Hartford about their Fall Twain Symposium. It says, in part, "This two-day symposium will bring together noted scholars from across the nation to present new research centering on MT's experience in the West and how it shaped his life and work. Frontier humor and the tall tale; America's "Imperialist Expansion"; depictions of the Native American; and the influence of Twain's early years as a journalist will be among the subjects discussed. All of these aspects will be explored through a variety of approaches within the disciplines of literary criticism, biography, and cultural and political history." Guests include Michael Kiskis, Kerry Driscoll, Louis J. Budd, James M. Cox, William Howarth, John H. Davis, and Harold H. Kolb, Jr. When: October 10-11, 1992 For more detailed info, contact the MT Memorial at (203) 247-0998 or by fax at (203) 278-8148. Regards, Taylor Roberts
