In response to Robert Dagnall's inquiry about charges of racism in
"Adventures
of Huckleberry Finn," David Tomlinson cited a special issue of the Mark
Twain
Journal on the subject (Fall 1984). The essays in that issue have been
updated
and republished, along with six new essays, new introductory material, and
an
annotated bibliography, in a book titled "Satire or Evasion?: Black
Perspectives
on Huckleberry Finn" (Duke University Press, 1992). I am one of the book's
three editors; the others are Tom Tenney and Thadious Davis. --Jim Leonard
