I meant to post this before the election but didn't get around to it. This was triggered by seeing a "Ross for Boss" poster in Tucson a couple of weeks ago. Something clicked: Ross Perot seemed to have a lot in common with Hank Morgan. Practical, hard-headed, bottom-line types. Populists with authoritarian streaks. Good at information-gathering and high-tech communication. Suspicious of established power. Coincidence, or is Perot just an avatar of an American type that Twain recognized 100 years ago?
