The Further Adventures and Discoveries of Huckleberry Finn At six 'clock on October 14th, Special Collections and Archives at Rutgers University will host the ninth annual Bishop Lecture, "The Further Adventures and Discoveries of Huckleberry Finn." For the first time in its history, the Lecture will be shared by two speakers--a form we find peculiarly appropriate in light of this year's focus, the manuscript of Huckleberry Finn. William Loos, Curator of Rare Books at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, will speak about his by now legendary efforts at reuniting the two halves of the mansucript, and discuss the histories of the manuscript, from the time Twain made a gift of it to the great 19th century collector, James Fraser Gluck, to the present. Victor Doyno, Professor of English Literature at the State University of New York at Buffalo, will discuss the practical applications of genetic criticism toward an understanding of the creative process, a methodology usefully demonstrated in his publication, WRITING HUCK FINN. Professor Doyno will also read excerpts from the Huckleberry Finn manuscript that were omitted from the published text. The Lecture will be held at the Archibald S. Alexander Library on College Avenue, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Please rsvp by October 11, or call for further information, (908) 932-7505. MJoseph Rutgers University Libraries
