I am currently writing a seminar paper about CY, so I was particularly interested by Mike's post. I am curious--how do you (as a group) believe that the travel motif manifests itself in CY? The Boss must accompany his future wife on a quest to what he laters learns is her pig sty in order to prove himself a worthy challenger, yet this adventure seems to do little (other than add to his legions) relative to his pursuit of power. Do you see the Boss's imperfection as his thirst for power? I think that Mike's original sin idea works well with such a thirst. In fact, it is interesting that it was the tree of knowledge of good and evil that corrupted Adam and Eve. In my opinion, one could argue that knowledge of good and evil is what the Boss truly lacks. After all, he does possess a good deal of knowledge (his recollection of an eclipse saves him near the beginning, etc). But, somehow, he fails to understand the responsibility (good v. evil) that his knowledge places upon him. James Inman Valdosta State University
