I am a bit curious about this request for a 'congratulatory message' on the opening of the "Toronto FreeNet". Before I offer congratulations, I would like to know more about this supposed "free" and "democratic" access to Health Care Information. Who pays? Who pays for the information to be made internet-accessable? Who pays for the on-line access time? Who pays for the accessing account/ e-mail needed for a person to 'freely' and 'democratically' access FreeNet? What happens to the list of Congratulators? Who has access to my and other's e-mail addresses, after it is made available as part of the Media Promotion? Will this be like other subcriber lists, a commodity to be sold? Will I suddenly find my mail-file full of unsolicited and unwelcome mail? Will my congratulatory note make me a target for spamming? What type of 'health' information is to be made available? How up to date is this information, and will it be continually be kept up to date? (at who's expense?) If someone involved with the FreeNet can answer these questions, I will feel better informed about that to which I am offering my congratulations.
