He told me that they don't know anything further about when the thing will air; the producers are being secretive. What they do at MTP is listen to NPR (National Public Radio) each day at 3PM (West Coast time) and then if they are on, well, they have time to race home and set their VCR's for 6PM when the thing will air on Television (West Coast time). Can you fathom this? It seems that "MacNeil" and his partner can be heard at 3PM on NPR and then actually seen at 6PM on television. Other methods, like your own, are being employed as well; they are too numerous to mention. It is a fine state of affairs. No actual work is now being done at the MTP; everyone is far too busy tuning radio dials, setting VCRs and checking the world-wide web (did I mention the overseas watch?). I have not joined the watch myself, being a slacker. No one is getting any sleep either; what if they miss the broadcast? Two days ago an editor, while on duty, fell over with exhaustion. Someone noticed yesterday there was a stiff object blocking the entrance to the short-wave radio room (newly installed to check the net). It's regrettable, and there's been a good deal of complaining, and the time it's taken already is beyond reason, but one thing is clear -- there can be absolutely no thought of taking time out for a funeral! Not now! Might miss the broadcast! Paul Berkowitz ([log in to unmask])
