Jean mentioned the Masterworks. I still use them. The copyright is owned by Richard Lamm, CEO of Norton, although it was published by McGraw Hill. He gives me permission to reprint it for my classes. I suspect that if the list wanted to put together a collection together with a committment to use it for a while, a publisher would print it. The problem is that they are too dense to realize that a cannonical collection for the History of Thought is different from a collection of short stories. We would all want some Smith, Ricardo, Marx. The differences would arise when we go back much further or continue past Marx. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 Tel. 916-898-5321 E-Mail [log in to unmask]
