The program is envisioned as having two phases. Although distinct in terms of time and place, these phases actually form part of a continuum, in which the learning process and development of the research project are intertwined. During the first phase, Fellows will spend 9-12 months at leading teaching/research institutions outside their native countries. The format will be similar to that of a post-doctorate with a marked emphasis on practice. During the second phase, Fellows will implement the research project with the support of the home institution. Funding for the second phase is subject to approval of the research protocol by the Review Committee. The exact amount of the award will depend on the specific needs of each case, taking into account prevailing norms and regulations of PAHO/WHO. In any case, the award is not to exceed US$25,000.00. In the event that the Grant does not cover all anticipated costs, the candidate will be asked to demonstrate the availability of funds for the remainder. PLEASE NOTE: the deadline for receipt of applications in PAHO Headquarters is May 15, 1996. CHSMI, at that time, was a new teaching facility associated with Haynal Imre Postgraduate Medical University. Its major goal was to rapidly train present senior health service professionals in the various areas of health administration, as part of the country's overall effort at health reform. McGill attained a project grant from the Canadian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to assist in strengthening the Hungarian Institute in the delivery of its training program. McGill's involvement consisted of an office based in Montreal, the presence of a full-time faculty member at the Institute, and the sending of several Canadian professors to teach specific courses and assist the further development of the Institute. The Institute has now seen its first class graduate from the one year certificate program (January, 1995) and further cohorts begin not only the one year program, but also a two year Masters course of study. =================================================================== This document is available, with full formating and accents, from: Ce document est egalement disponible, avec les accents et la mise en page: http://hpb1.hwc.ca:8500/syn_indx.html ===================================================================
