As well as Mary Schweitzer's interesting caveats, I think it's worth 
pointing out that something of at least as much interest to me is thinkers 
whose influence was truncated for cultural reasons. 
 
This is particularly notable in the case of a number of women 
economists. Of course, some of their approaches *were* independently 
rediscovered decades later by white male economists.... 
 
But of course truncated influences are, if anything, harder to trace than 
influences which actually continued to convey their germ down 
academic generations!
