As you will notice, two of the seminars take on the form of a debate. This is an indication of our pursuit of promoting argumentative dialogue and debate as part of the conversational culture of the seminar. Whenever a paper (or papers) related to the talk or debate is available -- as we trust will usually be the case -- it will be circulated in advance to those intending to attend so that the time taken by the presentation can be kept to a minimum and most of the session can be devoted to an exchange of critical arguments. We would like to ask you to forward this information to those of your colleagues and students who might be interested in being put in the mailing list and in receiving the papers. We also welcome suggestions for speakers (such as foreign specialists visiting the country or its vicinity) or topics or debates. On practical matters (mailings, times, places etc) please contact Manon Geluk (telephone 31-(0)10-408 1159, email [log in to unmask]). On other matters, you may contact Uskali Maki. You are most welcome to participate in the seminar. We find your participation of great importance for the success of this ambitious endeavour. Every good wish, Sincerely, Uskali Maeki Maarten Janssen Arjo Klamer Erasmus Seminar in Philosophy and Economics Spring 1996 Programme Time Wednesdays at 3:30 pm (May 8 is an exception) Place Erasmus University Rotterdam 7 February 3:30 pm [Room LB-078] Marcel Boumans (University of Amsterdam) "Lucas and artificial economies" 21 February 3:30 pm [Room H6-06] Mary Morgan (London School of Economics and University of Amsterdam) "Irving Fisher's Models of Money" 6 March 3:30 pm [Room H6-06] Uskali Maeki (EUR) "Rhetoric is easy, conversation is difficult -- or, answering and really answering: A rejoinder to McCloskey" Deirdre McCloskey (University of Iowa and EUR) "But Conversation is All We Have" 20 March 3:30 pm [Room H6-06] Arjo Klamer (EUR) "The Children of Tinbergen" 24 April 3:30 pm [Room H6-06] Leszek Nowak (University of Poznan) "Some methodological peculiarities of economic models" 8 May 2:30 pm [Room G2-29] Philip Pettit (Australian National University) "Functional explanation and virtual selection" 15 May 3:30 pm [Room H3-02] Albert Jolink (EUR) "If history matters, then what is history?
