In my forthcoming (Spring 96) book, WEST POINT AND MARK TWAIN, I present some previously unpublished correspondence between SLC and C.E.S. Wood (who printed the 1882 version) that traces the clandestine nature of 1601's production at the military academy. The evidence is clear that SLC was the author. >On the subject of 1601, I think Mark Twain acknowledged that he >wrote it. I can't remember where I read it though. It might have been >in the anthology Neider put together in the late '80s where I first >discovered 1601 in print. >Can anyone clarify this for me?
