The line about a woman preaching isn't Twain's. It's Samuel Johnson's, but I don't know the source. I expect that like most of the best Johnson lines you can find it in Boswell. By the bye, Barb, what are you working on? It seems you have an incredible depth and range of knowledge on Twain, but I can't recall your name from any books or articles.
