---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Wed, 15 May 1996 22:39:33 -0400 (EDT) From: CHAN Kevin J. <[log in to unmask]> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To the members of CUCHID: Within the past two years, there has been a growing movement within the student community interested in international health and development to such a stage that 19 universities representing around 500 students are currently involved in the organization known as Reseau Etudiants Universitaire pour la Sociale et Sante Internationale (REUSSI) / Student University Network for Social and International Health (SUNSIH). It is my believe that CUCHID and our organization REUSSI/SUNSIH are natural partners trying to achieve similar goals. However, we have been rather ineffectual in our means of communication and collaboration on similar projects. At the CUCHID thinktank meeting in Guelph, last October, three working groups were created, but to my knowledge, little or no student input has gone forth. Furthermore, we need to strength our communicative capacity. An initiative put forth by two University of Toronto students, Jeremy Theal and Mark Nutley to create an International Health Registry Informatic System linking universities working in international health and development together, and providing easier access to resources requires funding and aid, that an organization with your mandate, willpower, and support could provide. I strongly believe that we, the students, can enhance your current work and strengthen the position of CUCHID, while CUCHID could provide an invaluable service as a stabilizing force for our organization that will mutually benefit us in the long run. It is insufficient for us to sit around, when there are many more things that we could do together, and push forward in new directions. I urge you to open a dialogue with us as soon as possible. Thank you. Sincerely, Kevin Chan University of Ottawa CHAN Kevin J. <[log in to unmask]>
