There will be two major system outages to centrally provided UNIX services this month. Please read the following carefully and mark your calendars. CCS UNIX Technical Support will be upgrading the central high-speed file servers (the lexington and enterprise FAServers) which provide home directory storage for all UNIX accounts on the E-Mail/Internet, Synchronize, and Phoenix systems. The upgrade will double the disk storage capacity of the FAServers to meet a growing demand for file space. Two system outages will be required. Due to the large volume of data being stored on the FAServers which must be transferred before and after the disks are replaced, the outages will be lengthy. The first is estimated to take four hours and the second about nineteen hours. Every effort will be made to return services back to normal as soon as possible after these data transfers. The outages are scheduled for: Thu May 9 from 5pm to 9pm and Fri May 17 from 5pm until noon Sat May 18 During those two periods, all central e-mail services, Synchronize calendaring, and the Phoenix systems will be unavailable. Please note that any incoming mail to the University will be queued on the mailrelay system during the two outages, to be delivered later when normal operations resume. No incoming mail will be lost.
