The award is a travel fellowship, which is usually used to support work with an MSH international public health project for at least two months. Awards are sometimes given to individuals who have developed independent plans. Eligible applicants must have received a graduate degree within the past two years, or be expecting to receive a graduate degree within two years after the award travel. Each reviewer will be asked to read and evaluate, in accordance with identified criteria, the brief one-page abstracts which will be submitted for consideration as presentations at the conference. Abstracts are submitted in the format stipulated in the conference’s Call for Abstracts. The group of reviewers will meet either in person or by teleconference to finalize the list of accepted and rejected abstracts and assign them into groupings by subject. The qualifications for reviewers include: academic preparation at the graduate level in the health and/or development field, experience in international health programs, and preferred experience with an abstract review process. By Design project includes a poster showcase, international conference and festival, to be held in Toronto, Canada, from October 20 - 24, 1997. One of the key strategies for creating healthier communities is to design environments that are supportive of health. In preparation for these activities, Design Exchange is gathering ideas that show how thoughtful design contributes to healthy communities. They are looking for recently completed projects, works in progress or proposed initiatives and ideas that show innovative ways in which people have made their environment healthier.
